About

The tiger rockfish is a sebastid that inhabits rocky reefs, mainly at depths greater than 10 m, and it is solitary and territorial, defending a home crevice among rocks. Juveniles are pelagic, it is viviparous, and it quickly changes colour when disturbed or when the lighting changes. It is caught infrequently and incidentally marketed as rockfish, and its flesh is firm and tasty. It is recorded from 10 to 275 m. Maximum length is about 61 cm total length, and it can live 116 years. It is a minor commercial species, a gamefish and a public aquarium fish, with a medium price category. Fishing vulnerability is high to very high at 71 of 100 and resilience very low. IUCN lists it as data deficient.
