About

The Spanish flag snapper is a lutjanid known to Singapore anglers as “tee-boon”; it is one of the common snappers around the reefs of the southern islands. Its range runs from India to northern Australia. It hugs coral and rocky structure and readily takes bottom baits such as prawn and squid, diving for cover when hooked, so it must be pulled clear early. Singapore’s Red Data Book lists it as VU (vulnerable), though it is not legally protected.
