About

The one-spot snapper, 黑點仔 in Taiwan, is a pale lutjanid with a dark spot on the upper back, common along the coast and around reefs. Usually solitary or in small groups, it shelters in coral caves and wrecks and feeds at night, making it a shore and boat target (3rd in the OCA's 2020 Q2 report, 5th in 2021 Q3).

Caution: large individuals carry a ciguatera risk. Heat, cold and marinating do not remove the toxin, which concentrates in the liver, roe and head, so avoid eating those parts. Seek medical help if numbness, tingling or a reversed sense of hot and cold follows a meal.
