About

The Malabar blood snapper is a lutjanid known in Singapore as “Ikan Merah” or “Ang Koi”; it is one of the most important red fish for local fishermen and markets, and a mainstay of deep-water bottom fishing from boats. Shore Angler notes it schools in deeper water and is not fussy about bait. In Singapore the name “Ikan Merah” also covers the crimson snapper (L. erythropterus). Singapore’s Red Data Book lists it as VU (vulnerable).
