About

The Japanese amberjack is a carangid that shoals as an adult, with juveniles sheltering among floating seaweeds. It feeds on plankton, reaches about 150 cm total length and 40 kg, and occurs down to 100 m; no season has been verified for it and IUCN lists it as Least Concern. Japan's large aquaculture industry is built on collecting wild juveniles, which are grown on and sold fresh for sashimi. It is a strong fighter and a challenging target.
