About

The flag rockfish is a demersal sebastid that inhabits rocky areas. Reports of specimens reaching 64 cm are doubtful, because fish over 51 cm may have been the redbanded rockfish. Adults feed on fish and crustaceans, and it is viviparous. It is recorded from the surface down to 302 m. Its range is the eastern Pacific, from San Francisco to Cape San Quintin in Baja California. Maximum length is about 51 cm total length, and it can live 18 years, maturing at about 34 cm. It is a commercial species, a gamefish and a public aquarium fish, with a medium price category. Fishing vulnerability is high to very high at 67 of 100 and resilience low; no IUCN assessment is recorded for it.
