About

The cui-ui is a demersal catostomid whose adults occur in deep water. It spawns only around the margin of Pyramid Lake in Nevada, though it formerly made spectacular spawning runs up the Truckee River. Its populations were subject to intensive fishing in the 19th and early 20th century, its habitats have been greatly altered by water development projects, and the species is now endangered. Maximum length is about 67 cm total length, and it can live 41 years. It is a minor commercial species and a gamefish. Fishing vulnerability is high to very high at 70 of 100 and resilience very low. IUCN lists it as endangered, and it is listed in CITES Appendix I.
